Mrs Hanim's main interest is developing solid wastes such as drinking water sludge and mollusc shells into adsorbent materials for the removal of heavy metals and dyes from waste water. She is currently a member of the Environmental Chemistry Group of the Water Research Alliance @ IPASA, UTM.

Her other interests include food analysis as well as processing and development of foods with emphasis on techniques such as microencapsulation and drying. Techniques in analytical chemistry are generally combined with physical chemistry such as kinetics of reactions.

She also has other interests which include writing, editing, and developing students' study and generic skills, such as communication skills, public speaking and personal grooming.
